Joel 4:13

“And rend your hearts, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord thy God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.”

In the Old Testament, tearing or pulling garments apart often was a sign of mourning. Outward signs of religious emotions are easily manifested and often hypocritical. Heart rendering is a deep soul moving work of the Holy Spirit upon the inmost heart of each believer.
